A humanitarian organization with a broad mission

The American Red Cross supports people and communities before, during, and after emergencies. Its humanitarian work includes disaster relief and recovery, blood and blood-product collection, emergency preparedness, health and safety education, support for military members, veterans, and their families, and international humanitarian services.

Across these efforts, community volunteerism plays an important role. The organization’s work helps individuals and communities build awareness, prepare for unexpected events, and find support during difficult moments.

How the American Red Cross serves communities

Disaster relief and recovery

Support for people affected by disasters and help as communities begin to recover.

Blood services

Collection and distribution support for blood and blood products used in patient care.

Preparedness and education

Programs that help people understand emergency readiness and develop health and safety knowledge.

Military and international services

Humanitarian support for military-connected families and work that reaches communities around the world.

The value of emergency preparedness

Preparedness is about being more ready to recognize an emergency, seek help, and respond thoughtfully. Learning in a structured setting can make unfamiliar situations feel more manageable.

Training also gives participants a chance to build confidence through guided practice, questions, and feedback. It is one way individuals, workplaces, and community groups can invest in a more prepared environment.

Course-specific topics

Depending on the selected course, instruction may cover applicable adult, child, and infant components, AED training-device practice, and first-aid knowledge.

What to expect from your training experience

The training experience is designed to be practical, organized, and welcoming. Participants can expect guided instruction, time to practice, and a chance to ask questions as they work through the course material.

The goal is increased preparedness and confidence to respond during an emergency. Reading about a topic is not the same as practicing it, which is why hands-on learning is a valuable part of applicable courses.

Before purchasing a course

Course completion and certification depend on satisfying the applicable participation and skills requirements. Customers should confirm that the selected course meets any employer, school, licensing, or regulatory requirements before purchasing.
